1. Dynamic veteran lawyer, communicator and broadcaster DR. EMMY D. BEZZINA and journalist JOHN ZAMMIT have teamed up together as independent candidates for the forthcoming European Parliament Elections this June 12 th . 2. Dr. Bezzina and Mr. Zammit believe that it is unhealthy for our small country and certainly not in its interests that Malta's two main political parties are fielding their line up of chosen candidates indicating clearly that the basic objectives of these two parties are not the supreme welfare of our Republic but to further their control and manipulation of our island state. 3. The EU Parliament Elections need persons who are pluralistic and cosmopolitan in their outlook on life: neither the Labour Party and more so the Nationalist Party fit this criterion as time and again has amply proved. 4. Law Consultant Dr. Bezzina has proven himself to be a champion of the rights of the down trodden in our insular society. Over fifty years of age, Dr. Bezzina has been a high profile figure in his twenty seven years experience in private practice not only in the field of progressive law but equally in broadcasting and other media matters always highlighting the issues and needs of those who have reason not to voice their dissatisfaction openly.
5. Journalist John Zammit has himself contributed to healthy and objective journalism for many years weighing the social pulse vis A vis the actual necessities of the people. Equally in his fifties, Mr. Zammit has vast experience in librarianship especially in the archiving field making him an ideal reference to compare the past with the present as well as linking the old Europe with the new Europe outlining objectively the new European social landscape following May I st aggrandizement. 6. As independent candidates, both Dr. Bezzina and Mr. Zammit believe that the European mentality contrasts sharply with the insular Maltese mentality at political party level. Hence why the Labour Party and the Nationalist Party are not apt to field candidates for the European Union Parliament because their modus operandi in Malta is not acceptable to a multicultural, pluralistic and cosmopolitan institution as is the EU Parliament. 7. EMMY BEZZINA is the founder and chairman of the Family Rights' Association which envisages a pluralistic definition of the word FAMILY incorporating not only married couples, but also cohabiting couples, same sex couples and legislative regulations to saveguard the rights and obligations of such family concepts, including the non discrimination among children whether born in wedlock or out of it. Dr. Bezzina agrees with the Family Rights' Charter and deplores the lack of sensitivity of both our main political parties in such issues.
8. JOHN ZAMMIT was instrumental for the setting up of the Association for Men's Rights which sought to saveguard the rights of men in a legislative system that was discriminatory against men involved in matrimonial conflicts. The AMR lobbied with determined pressure for the abolition of the notorious Warrant relating to the Impediment of Departure that had kept hundreds of men imprisoned in these islands. This impediment was finally abolished on October 1 1995. 9. Along with Dr. Bezzina, John Zammit fought fiercely against the mental manipulative mediocrity that prevailed in our country on matters such as legal separation, cohabitation, gay rights, illegitimate children, abortion and divorce. They stood up against the imposing interference of the Maltese Curia, as can be seen from the Malta Marriage Act 1975 as subsequently amended on March 1 1995 indicating the arrogance of the Canonical Curialists to further Vatican influence in our country. 10. Emmy Bezzina is also Chairman and Co Founder of the Malta Divorce Movement, having as its main objective the introduction of a local Divorce Law for Malta to eliminate the discrimination among those Maltese who can obtain divorce from foreign legal jurisdictions and those Maltese who cannot do so in their own country purely because of the abusive whims of our two main political parties in their flirtations with the local Curia! 11. Emmy Bezzina and John Zammit are family oriented individuals, both married with children who strongly believe in the value of family life if conducive to a healthy lifestyle, otherwise the Fundamental freedoms and rights of each and every individual, both men and women at equal level, should not be meddled with by mediocre political and religious leaders that seem to block the free passage of fresh intellectual air in our EU country. 12. Hence Dr. Emmy D. Bezzina and Mr. John Zammit make an ideal ticket as independent candidates for the European Union Parliament Elections come this June 12th, 2004. |
