Imperium Europa Movement Leader Norman Lowell together with his legal counsel Dr Emmy Bezzina will be continuing their battle in favour of freedom of speech by filing an appeal for the judgement handed down on Lowell on March 27th on charges of racial hatred amongst others. Norman Lowell in one case had four accusations levelled at him relating to the content of speeches he made in April and May of 2006,as well as those in an article he wrote in 2003 called ``Coming Cataclysmic Crises`` where he allegedly incited racial hatred. Other accusations include that of showing contempt to the person of Malta`s President in the light of Article 72 of Chapter 9 of Malta`s Criminal Code. Lowell was arrested on Saturday, May 27th, 2006, and this Case has been ongoing since then. In the Magistrates` Court Judgement, Lowell was found guilty on all four accusations, given a jail sentence for two years though suspended for four, plus a €500 fine. He was equally warned that this Judgement should serve as an axing deterrent that in future he should foresee how to express himself so that similar outcomes will not be repeated. Lawyer Dr Bezzina on behalf of his client and in accordance with Mr. Lowell`s instructions prepared a lengthy Appeal Document which will be filed on Tuesday, April 8th. The Magistrates` Court Judgement is being contested throughout its length and breadth with over twenty-three different requests being made either for the inferior Court`s Judgement to be revoked or else to be altered on very strong factual and legal grounds. After the submission of the Appeal Document, Lowell and Bezzina will be addressing the press in front of the law courts.
