Dr Bezzina and Mr Lowell presented a judicial protest to the first hall of the civil court last week. They had submitted another one on 6 July. Later they addressed a news conference at the Upper Baracca gardens in Valletta. They are alleging that the five elected MEPs, Joseph Cuschieri and Roberta Tedesco Metsola Triccas covered up their expenses by making their agents take a false oath. The documents are available at the Electoral Commission for review by the public. They can be viewed until 11 August. They are insisting that the Attorney General and the Police Commissioner should look into the issue and investigate further. The law instructs that not more than e18,635 including donations or otherwise should have been spent on the campaign. If proven otherwise the candidates might have to leave their posts or get fined. Dr Bezzina claimed that at least one candidate was offered a donation of e500,000. All the details will be made public once the court case is open, he added. Mr Lowell insisted that his and Mr Bezzina’s intention is to see justice prevail and to hinder Malta from becoming a third world country. Meanwhile, Mr Lowell referred to the alleged electoral inconsistencies as “tyranny in the making”. Together they announced the birth of a new liberal political party that will see a merge between Imperium Europa, Alleanza Nazzjonali and Alpha Liberal Party. Some key people from the green party are expected to join in too, while he called for “upright individuals” to join the new movement. The new party will work to regenerate Malta and make it the best country
in Europe, explained Mr Lowell. “The two political parties don’t
care for their own party let alone for the country,” he went on. |
